 All hands on deck! Thar she blows!!

It's the school year's end... and with all the chaos of kids trying to get their grades up (not mine... no way!) and working on the Kindergarten covers (I voluntarily cut, arrange and glue covers for 4 classes worth of memory books), CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) Swimming Championships, and my regular life in general... I'm just as busy as ya'll... don't get your panties inna bunch. Not tryin' to out-do anybody, just tellin' it like it is.. GET OVER IT. I started with THIS:
then I saw Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Men Tell No Tales 
(I posted the smallest clip I could find for you!)
and changed my mind AGAIN... you should be used to it by now, folks...!

One of my SpEd students was graduating, and I remembered he happened to love pirates, but hated "Captain Jack Sparrow." And so... I looked for something a little more to his liking. I ended up with THIS:
The student happens to love emojis and anime. Um... I'll take the emojis over the anime... only because I know I can do it without failing. Anime is an art all in itself, which I have not mastered (and probably won't ever...). Cricut is nice enough to have a pirate emoji cut. Yeeha!!!! Simple...
Using scraps 'cause that's what I do best..., some of the background cuts were a little short. And that's ok, because they were going to get covered up anyway! The second photo shows the layering cuts a little offset. My suggestion? Don't necessarily glue it down in order. I ended up attaching the red pirate bandana onto the face, then setting it on the background. otherwise it was just going to stay wonky. And I know I'm trying really REALLY hard to not be so OCD and trying to be perfect, but hey... that just was. not. going. to. cut. it.
See? He looks pretty fly for a yellow white (no... that's not racist... just lyrics from a 90's song) guy... Insert music for the Offspring here... and since I really don't know how to insert music... you can see the video HERE! (Just make sure you come back to hop and comment...)

I cut a simple blue card (my student's fave color), and popped up me pirate with some of my fave... clear silicone caulking. Hey boys at Home Depot... I'm almost out and coming to visit you soon...  And please forgive my shadow-y images... I haven't really worked on that yet, either. But no worries. It's still on my list... Totally hoping you love it in it's pirate-y simplicity! Let me push you off the plank to the next blog...

A Year of Card Techniques - World of Watercolors (May)

Welcome to A Year of Card Techniques Blog Hop where each month we feature a different card technique. We’ve assembled a team of card makers who range from new to advanced, so you’ll see a great variety of cards and ideas.

And now... we are off to my mishaps adventures!

I began with these... the Windsor Newton Watercolor Pens. (Yes!!! I said, "PENS!!!") Which side to use? The point (definitely not a fine-tip) or the brush... Um... BRUSH it is!
And then I did something fun. At least I thought I did... I sprayed "snow" on watercolor paper and let it dry. (L-O-V-E that texture. Kinda like the "orange-peel" on textured walls.) Then, I brushed on color, sprayed on water, and let that baby run! OOOH!!! I really liked it! And then... I let it dry. Oops! It was SO hard... I wasn't about to put any of my paper cutters through THAT mess. So, I took a photo and tried to print it. After several print-head cleanings... it came out pink magenta'ish. And I'm SO not down with that. I had to go another route...
And so... I drew dots and lines on watercolor paper. See? (Say it with me..., "Oooh! Ahh!")
And then I spritzed them with agua fresca (that's Espanole for "fresh water"). And let it run. I turned them and turned them, so the color would get everywhere.
I didn't like the way the dotted one was going, so I blotted it a tad with a paper towel Um... It took out most of the color, so... I placed the striped one on top and pressed it in, giving it a little more "oomph." (I do like the way the texture turned out but decided it really wasn't for this project...)
Loving the striped one, I stamped a "thank you" on it (I need LOTS of Thank You cards and am WAY behind in getting some out...), layered it on a green card base and called him 'er done!

And so... I decided to try "coloring" again! This was supposed to be "quick." Apparently, that is not a word my mind or fingers seem to understand.
I started off with a pigment stamped piece. maybe that was my problem...
Colored in some dark (bold) orange from my seldom used Spectrum Noir(s)...
Tried to add some softer orange... because I thought I had this "blending" thing figured out...
And I "blended" it. Nope. Not working for me...
So I added more bold orange to the mix...
It's the best thing I got... You don't really want to know how many times I REALLY tried this...
These are the gorgeous colors I used in case you don't want to make the same mistake want to replicate my masterpiece.
(Looks like someone was sneaking into my secret pal's goodies!)
I attached it all to this little basket... 
Just so you know... (because I know and thought you might want to as well..) I accidentally must've deleted the pic with the tag attached to the basket...

A Year of Card Techniques - (December - Metallic)

Can you believe it's month twelve of a Year of Card Techniques?

This last month of the year, we are focusing all our attention on metallics, whether it's foil, embossing powder, inks or cardstock, anything metallic and since it's December we just had to make it holiday too.


Now on with the projects.
Now... don't go getting excited. I didn't get far with this. My water spilled all over my table, getting my Scor Tape and this really cool (and kind of expensive... to me) foil wet. Lesson. Put your beverage, whatever it may be AWAY from your workspace or maybe drink wine while you work. I believe I may never have put that darned glass down, had it been wine...
But, all is well. My daughter needed a birthday card. The little girl (not so little... she's almost 12!) has her birthday 3 days away from Christmas! So... I started with these items. (Thank you, Anna Griffin kits!!!)
I love that these Anna Griffin things (from HSN) no... this isn't an advertisement!!!! have almost everything you need! This silver element made the perfect banner for the card.
There always something to play with, whether it's the positioning or not enough of something...
This one's not enough of something. READ: SOMETHING'S MISSING!!!!
And so... with the added Baker's Twine, I believe it's good! Super Duper simple! and easier than all getouts, since I still haven't plugged in my machines upon my return (omg... it was back in the beginning of LAST month!!! I have to get moving and get stuff unpacked!!!) from the Scrapbook Expo (where I got the original foil I was going to use...!

And that's that! Ok... so it's not quite Christmas, but... I forgot it was supposed to be I figured you all might be inundated with everything Christmas and thought I'd throw this in the mix!
